Psalms 14:1: “To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
I was reading something on the internet that sort of blew me away. In fact I started to search the internet as I was amazed at how many reputable scientist, physicist, philosophers and scholars not only actually believe this but are using government money to research it. This is not some conspiracy theory held by some fringe Alex Jones type street philosopher, but actual recognized, published, serious scholars such as Nick Bostrom, who is a scholar on the University of Oxford faculty and John Barry who is an award winning distinguished scientist on the faculty of Cambridge University two of the most prestigious universities in the world. There are many other distinguished scientists such as Leonard Susskind and James Gates who are theoretical physicist who also not only strongly believe in this theory but are now conducting research into this theory trying to find some deep anomaly that would prove we are living in a matrix, a computer simulation created by some programmer or programming team. They believe that this universe we live in is just the creation of a computer programmer and we are no more than the creation of this programmer who live in a Tron like existence not even realizing that we and our universe are just a series of 10101010. In fact James Gates alleges to have reached deep into the very core of the atomic structure and found a set of equations that is exactly like the equations that drive search engines and browsers. He claims to have found a computer code written into the very fabric of our cosmos, bits of 1010101. It does not resemble computer code but is actual computer code.
This was even debated recently at the prestigious Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate conducted by Neil DeGrasse Tyson director of the Hayden Planetarium and world renowned astronomer (atheist) which was a triple sell out on the subject of the existence of nothing, in other words our universe is nothing, it is just a computer simulation like a computer game only much more elaborate where the actors in the computer games have a consciousness.
If you ever watched Star Trek the Next Generation they have a Hologram room where members of the crew can relax by going into this room and programming any environment they want. They can go to ancient Egypt or 20th century earth and actually interact with the people created by this computer program. These creations have consciousness and intelligence and are able to converse, create and invent.
Crazy no? The thing about all these scientist and philosophers is that they are atheist, they do not believe in a God. Yet as they dig deep into the very fabric of our existence, they cannot deny that there is a greater intelligence at work. But rather than call that intelligence God they have come up with a theory which in truth is nothing more than saying that there is a god, but that this god is nothing more than some pimply computer geek from some other dimension of high intelligence playing with his computer who will just shut down his computer one day, hit the delete button and we will all vanish from existence. On the other hand many of these scientists are working to create just the same type of simulation so they can create their own virtual world giving its characters consciousness and intelligence and become like the Most High where they will be a god who creates and destroys at his will.
I wonder if David was not referring to these scientists who deny the existence of God yet are willing to believe in an all-powerful programmer. A scientist only believes what he can prove and see. He cannot prove the existence of God but he feels he can prove and see the existence of a programmer. The word fool is nabel in the Hebrew. There was actually a person named Nabel during David’s time and some commentators believe David was referring to him. Most however, believe it to be just a play on words and the word should not be taken as a proper name but for what it means. This is really the proper Semitic approach and hence it is properly translated as a fool. This word nabel in the original ancient Hebrew was spelled without vowels. The vowels were added only in 700 AD. You could easily pronounce the word as noble. Indeed that is the meaning of the word, to be noble distinguished and yet senseless. It is also the word for clouds or fog. You see them but there is no substance to them but vapor which vanishes. You fly into a cloud or walk into a fog and you can easily lose your way. You do not know what direction you are heading. So it is with these atheistic scientists who refuse to believe in God but cannot deny the existence of some greater power so they come up with their own idea of a programmer. If they can prove their theory then you don’t need faith to believe in a higher power.
Yet, all they are doing is giving some theory and using their credentials to make it plausible to excite the appetite of those who desperately want to stand out, to appear enlightened, have some knowledge that others do not have and show themselves as special. No, they don’t believe in God like these foolish uneducated people, they believe in something with scientific basis, “Look at me I am enlightened.” These theories will steer a searcher away from God or even cause a weaker brother to question the existence of God. Here is a plausible, scientific explanation of the existence of some higher being and it does not have to be the God of our fathers. Yet, they receive their knowledge from what David calls a nabel, people who have noble and distinguished, yet senseless and empty. In English we call a nabel a fool
